The Wedgwood Club was named after Josiah Wedgwood, a famous English potterer (1730-1795) and prominent abolitionist.  He was the grandfather of Charles Darwin.  He produced Wedgwood China, the blue or sometimes green china with overlaid white decoration still
common throughout the world.  Wedgwood brought himself into notice by the production of a peculiar cream colored vase known as Queen's Ware.  He introduced many utensils for use by chemists, pharmacists and druggists, that have never been equaled in quality such as mortars and pestles, and pill tiles made of Queen's Ware with the name Wedgwood stamped in the clay.  Our founders hoped to make this Club of equal reputation and innovation.
